Graeme Aithie

Partner

Graeme is a specialist in debt funding, investment appraisal and project finance, with nearly 20 years’ experience across various infrastructure and real asset sectors. He co-leads QMPF’s Education advisory team, supporting universities on funding strategy, net zero initiatives and the delivery of major capital projects.

He has led the financing of new and redeveloped student residences for institutions including Edinburgh, Salford, Kingston, Birmingham and Staffordshire through ‘off balance sheet’ Design, Build, Finance, and Operate (DBFO) partnership structures. His expertise also spans other forms of commercial joint ventures and institutional funding via income strips. Graeme also selectively supports private sector student accommodation investors and operators (such as iQ, Uliving, Equitix, and Unite) with asset financing, financial modelling and university engagement.

Graeme’s work with university clients includes debt funding and treasury matters – covering funding options reviews, the arrangement of new borrowing facilities, sector benchmarking, valuation, covenant forecasting and lender negotiations. He recently supported Hull on its £86m green private placement.

Graeme holds a first-class honours degree in Economics from Glasgow University and joined QMPF in 2008, having qualified as a Chartered Accountant with PwC in London. Outside work, he enjoys golf, cycling and volunteering around his two children’s activities. Graeme also served as trustee and treasurer of Venture Scotland for five-years, a charity which delivers outdoor development programmes for disadvantaged young people. .
